More Realizations

More things I've thought of...

Trying to wear high heels is almost laughable. Wear them for one day or one hour of teaching and you will severely regret your fashion choice.

Not all parents are involved or even care about their childs education

Sometimes kids say things or jokes that you have NO idea what they mean

Waking up early gets easier the more you do it

tattling is like a disease...a horrible, contagious, annoying disease

Sometimes kids notice the smallest things that you never would have picked up on

Grading papers isn't as fun as you think..it's actually kinda tedious. But when you get a paper from a student who is struggling and has done really well, It makes up for it.

It makes you really sad that you can't really hug your kids no matter what they do or how well they do.

Realizations of a Student Teacher

While doing my student teaching this semester I've come to realize a great many things that I thought I'd share with you.

1st of all, the change from student to teacher has it's pros and cons.

Pros

Being in charge

No Homework...nuff said(but I do have some homework but that's because I am a STUDENT teacher, so I still have some student responsibilities.)

Smiles from students

that look in a child's eyes when they finally "get it"

from the mouths of babes-funny stuff kids say

Cons

grading papers

meetings

all those days that students got the day off for?-Parent/Teacher COnferences, School Improvement day?-Teachers don't get off-we have to be there

Early Release?-I think not-Teachers let's have a super long meeting!

On with the list of realizations....

Kindergarten teachers don't get half the respect they deserve-whatever you think-we do NOT play all day. Not only do we teach these kids the basics of school(Math, Reading, Writing etc) we have to teach them how to act in school ie get in line, raise your hand, go to the bathroom when it's time etc. That is extremely hard, but we do it.

Things that would be highly innapropriate for an adult to say, are hilariously funny when a child says them.

Kids say what they think and feel. If you look bad, they tell you. If your breath stinks they tell you-or if you are breathing like Darth Vader, that's right you guessed it, they tell you.

If you want to feel loved, teach a class. Students(especially kindergartners) are very honest about their feelings and they will tell you if they like you.

Holding hands with a child is one of the best feelings in the world. When their little hand fits into yours, you know that they trust you and that it is your job to educate them and you can't fail them.

You can't "wing it" in the classroom. If you don't have a plan, you have a plan for failure.

If you make a mistake, students will forgive you.

When you go out shopping, you will start finding things that would go good in a classroom, would be good for your students etc-you stop shopping for yourself.

You start spending money on your students/classroom rather than yourself

Your friends/family start getting tired of hearing all your stories about your students.

That's all I have for right now, but I'm not done teaching so I'm sure I'll realize even more. Thanks for listening to all my rambling. lol

new post. New Post! NEW POST!

Yeah, thats a nice title isn't it? I thought so too. Anyways, Now I have access to the internet alot more now since I got a laptop and can get internet. Now I'm not saying I'm gonna be on all the time higgledy piggledy. But I'll be on a little bit more than I was before.

Well nothing really new happened lately. Oh wait, did you guys want to see a picture of the Valentines Day Dance? You DO?
Well here is me and Andy Rogers my "date" for the evening. Yes he is tall, but in his tallness is a whole bunch of funniness as well. I had a really nice time at the dance with him and I laughed alot. I'm just not so sure that this friendship will ever be more than just that, friendship. Oh well, I wasn't too worried about that.
Anyways, I'm bored with being online right now, So I guess I will have to get back to you later. Buh Bye

Valentines Weekend!

Well, I haven't posted in a while because A) I don't really have access to the internet alot and B)when I do I have access I have other things to do besides a blog post(not that this isn't important. lol)

I came home to Farmington this weekend because it was a 3 day weekend and I needed a bit of family time. It's been great to see my Parents, sisters and brothers and Aunt Linn and Uncle Mert and cousins and nephews and everyone!

Another reason I came home is because there was a Valentines day dance at the SIngles branch. I asked my friend Andy Rogers to go with me. We had such a good time. I got a really cute outfit with jewelry and everything! I looked so cute(I'm so NOT conceited, really) anyways....He came and picked me up and he brought me little Valentines Gifts-so sweet. We went out to eat and then went to the dance. I had such a good time and it was really worth coming home for.

It was so nice to be home and spend time with my Mama. I've always been really close to her and I'm glad we got to hang out. On Saturday she took me out to dinner and we went and saw Confessions of a Shopaholic(which is super funny) THen I got to sit next to her at church and she said she was happy that I came home and we got to spend time with her. I live for those moments. I'm such a Mamas girl and I love it!

Well until next time I blog-Adios!

Life in Deming

So I haven't "blogged" in a while, but that is because I've been super busy and also I don't have alot of internet access here in Deming, which is where I am living, right now, at this moment in my life, and actually right now. For those of you who haven't been informed(cuz I didn't tell you) I am doing my student teaching in Deming, NM with a kindergarten class. I am living with my Aunt SHIrley and Uncle Rex for the time being.
Everyday I'm in the classroom I start to like it more and more. I'm starting to have a "teacher voice" lol. My kindergardens crack me up so often. The other day I had a little boy tell me that his cousin Marcos wanted to be a scientist so he could turn himself into a dog. Yes I get random things like that all the time. But they make the day soo much better. They are so cute and have such little personalities! I do have days where I get frustrated with them and the whole class, but everyone has those days. I love my Clinical Faculty(the teacher I'm with) She is such a good teacher and I've already learned so much from her. It's awesome!

Living with AUnt SHirley and Uncle Rex has it's ups and downs. I don't get homesick that often because Aunt Shirley reminds me alot of my Mom. Just how she does stuff or says things. It's nice. ANd my Uncle Rex is suprisingly funny. He makes me laugh alot. But don't get him talking, because he likes to talk...ALOT. But living in Deming, I don't do ANYTHING. THeres nothing to do. I have a bit of cabin fever because I don't really get out of the house. Me and my Aunt Shirley have shows that we watch. We just recently got into the Bachelor and this new show called True Beauty which is hilarious. And Tuesdays and Wednesdays are devoted to AMerican Idol. lol I help out around the house. I cook occasionally and help Aunt SHirley. Uncle Rex is almost done with the bathroom-maybe like 3 more weeks.(OH I didn't tell you, he's remodeling the bathroom in the hall, so all 3 of us are sharing the bathroom in their bedroom. Oh Joy!)

So in SUmmary-Life in Deming is simple, family and teaching oriented but severly boring!
